Hot tub use in winter

A hot tub is lovely in any season. You can enjoy using the hot tub just as much in the winter months as you can in the summer. In fact, you might find the wonderful outdoor feeling even more intense then than you do in the summer. So make sure your hot tub is ready for winter on time. Taking a hot tub is good for body and mind. It boosts the immune system and reduces stress. We'll give you tips on how to make the most of your hot tub in winter!

1. Protect the hot tub from frost

Electric hot tub

An electric hot tub can withstand frost, provided it is on and kept at the right temperature. If you’re not using your Nordic hot tub during the winter, it can be set to winter mode. The tub temperature will then drop back to a low level. Several times a day, the pump will automatically start to circulate the water in the tub. This will keep the pipes clean and prevent them from freezing over.

Wood-fired hot tub

A wood-fired hot tub can withstand minor frost of a few degrees Celsius. If temperatures drop well below freezing, we would recommend either draining the hot tub, or keeping the water above zero by lightly firing the heater to prevent it from freezing. The latter is only recommended if the frost is very temporary. Another option is to choose a filter system in combination with a frost protector, which acts as an electric heating element. This will release heat into the water, preventing it from freezing. It is important to store the filter system with the frost protector in a dry, ventilated, frost-free area, such as in a wooden storage box or in a shed.

2. Heat the hot tub to approximately 38 degrees

If the temperature during the day has been around the freezing point, stepping into a warm hot tub in the evening will be extra fun. We recommend heating the hot tub to around 35 degrees in the summer months. In the winter, you can keep the temperature a bit higher, namely around 38 degrees. A thermometer is the best way to closely monitor the temperature whilst heating up the hot tub water. The Nordic Hot Tub does not require a separate thermometer, because the control panel allows you to easily read the current and set temperature.

3. Change the hot tub water regularly

With the winter cold and the holidays just around the corner, a hot tub is obviously the ultimate relaxation aid. Frequent use of your hot tub inevitably means that the water will get dirty faster. Hence to enjoy your hot tub to the fullest extent possible, you should change the water regularly.

Change the water after 2 to 3 uses...

You really don't have to change the water from your hot tub after every use. Our advice is to replace the water only after 2 to 3 times. Refilling the hot tub with clean water costs only 2 to 3 euros at current water prices.

...or go for convenience with a filter system!

A second solution to enjoy the water in the hot tub for longer is to install a filter system in combination with the use of AquaKristal. This will keep the water usable for up to 2 months

These tips will help you to enjoy your hot tub as often in winter as you do in summer!
