Each and every hot tub is heated by a hot tub stove/heater. The heating method varies depending on the stove/heater installed. You can choose from a hot tub with an external, internal or integrated wood stove or an electrically heated hot tub.
How an external hot tub stove works
The external wood stove is heated by burning wood. The wood stove is double-walled. In the double wall there is an inlet hose (below) and an outlet hose (above), through which the water from the hot tub flows automatically. As heat rises (capillary action), the heated water will circulate towards the rest of the water in the hot tub. Hence the hot tub with external heater is heated completely naturally without a pump. The stove being outside the tub means extra space in the tub.

How an internal hot tub stove works
A hot tub with an internal wood stove basically works the same way as a hot tub with an external wood stove, except for the stove being in the tub behind a protective panel. This provides direct contact between stove and water.
The internal stove's filler opening is situated on the top. It always extends a few centimetres above the water surface so that water can never flow into it.

How an integrated hot tub stove works
