Enjoy the Finnish Kota
Experience that great outdoor feeling all year round with a Finnish Kota in your own garden. The Finnish Kota has its origins in Scandinavia, where these houses are used to provide comfort and warmth when staying out in the wilderness, such as on hikes that cover several days. This kota's distinctive hexagonal or octagonal shape and wooden interior ensure a cosy atmosphere. A Finnish Kota can be kitted out as a barbecue house, though also as a sauna or a combination of the two!

History of the Finnish Kota
The Sauna Kota will give you the original Scandinavian feeling in your own home! The Finnish Kota has its origins in the far north of the Scandinavian countries (Lapland). The Sami people came up with the Finnish Kota more than 4000 years ago. The Sami lived as reindeer herders in Lapland, the northernmost part of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Western Russia. Here, the summers were short, followed by long, cold winters.

Heat in harsh conditions
The Sami travelled around with their herds of reindeer in harsh conditions at temperatures of -30° Celsius. As a result, their homes not only had to be easy to dismantle and transport, but a warm, sheltered home was crucial to getting warm and recharging one's batteries. The result was the teepee. These tents were similar to wigwams and were made of thin logs covered with reindeer hides, with smoke escaping through the opening in the top.
In part due to extensive forestry in Scandinavia, the reindeer hides and skins have been superseded by strong pinewood over the years, giving rise to the wooden Finnish kotas that we now know and love. The Finnish Kota has retained its original teepee shape in the form of a wooden house with a pointy roof, with an opening in the middle to allow a fire to burn.
