Wood primer | Tikkurila Valtti Primer
The right pre-treatment for optimal results and the best adhesion.
Sun and moisture pose the biggest threats to wood. So treat bare wood as soon as possible.
Valtti Primer is a colourless, transparent, linseed-based primer that soaks deep into the wood and reduces moisture absorption. It also provides protection against UV, moulds and wood-decay fungi.

The colourless Valtti Primer protects wood and wooden exterior structures from water absorption. The primer slows the ingress of moisture into the wood and prevents mould from spreading. The product readily soaks deep into the wood fibres, providing good protection from water absorption and reducing the risk of cracks forming in the wood and paint.
Valtti Primer forms the initial protective coat on the wooden surface. The colourless primer doesn’t protect the wooden surface from exposure to sunlight. Hence the recommendation is to apply the final coat as soon as possible. Use Tikkurila outdoor woodstain or paint on top of Valtti Primer to ensure lasting protection of the wood.
Applicable to both sawn and planed wood, logs, thermally modified and impregnated wood.
The surface to be treated must be dry and clean. Whilst applying the product and allowing it to dry, the temperature must be at least +5°C and the relative humidity below 80%. Caution! At low temperatures and high relative humidity, the drying time may be longer.
Preparation:
Remove dirt, mould and loose material. If necessary, use Finncleaner, in line with the instructions for use. Protect other surfaces and plants from getting splashed with Valtti Primer.
Use:
Treat wooden surfaces with Valtti Primer as early on as possible in the construction phase. Prime the surfaces once. Apply an ample coat to the front ends. Apply the top coat as soon as possible, though not sooner than 24 hours after the primer coat.
Clean tools with turpentine.
